PRIVACY POLICY

Effective from June 21017

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, what we use it for, and how it is disposed of.

Quick reference guide to the words we use:

Genetic Information” refers to your sequenced DNA. 

Account Information” refers to any details about yourself that you share with us e.g. your shipping and email addresses.

Personal Information” refers to all of the data you have shared with us. These data combine your Genetic and Account Information.

“Product/s” refer to Dot One’s DNA Personalised Print and DNA Personalised Scarf which both include a results card and illustrated guide to genetics.

 

Purchase of Products through Dot One’s Website

As part of the Dot One at-home DNA kit, we ask you to sign a consent form with the following agreement: 

“I agree for a DNA profiling test to be undertaken and fully give my consent to the collection of a mouth swab.

I certify that the swab used to collect my sample has been labelled with my name and date of birth.

I understand that my consent may be withdrawn at any time by notifying Dot One or it’s testing laboratory, Northgene, in writing.

I indemnify and hold Dot One and Northgene Ltd harmless against any loss or damage, direct or indirect, for either the results or for any action arising or taken by any person in receipt of the information, howsoever caused and accept Northgene’s terms and conditions which are available at www.northgene.co.uk and form part of this contract.

If a sample is to be taken from an individual under the age of 18 an adult with parental responsibility MUST sign on behalf of the child. Northgene will request evidence of parental responsibility if the child’s mother does not sign on their behalf. By signing on behalf of a minor I understand that I am making a legal declaration and stating that I have the lawful right to do so.

I hereby authorise Northgene to conduct the test using my sample and provide the results to Dot One.

I agree for Dot One to pass on information to 3rd party manufacturers for the sole purpose of creating the physical DNA personalised products.”

 

The DNA samples are processed by UK accredited laboratory Northgene. Please read their privacy policy for information on how they store and dispose of genetic samples and data.

We are transferred your Genetic Information from Northgene electronically and use them solely for the purposes of tailoring the design of your Product. 

We will take all reasonable steps to protect your personal data although the transmission of information via the Internet can never be completely secure.

Dot One’s Products are for entertainment purposes only. Your Genetic Information that Dot One analyses contains no health information, therefore your results are not intended to be used to diagnostic purposes.

 

Purchase of Products through Helix’s Platform

For Products purchased through Helix’s platform, please refer to Helix’s Privacy Policy on how they store Your Information.

Dot One use portions of your Genetic Information as stored by Helix.

Dot One’s Products are for entertainment purposes only. Your Genetic Information that Dot One analyses contains no health information, therefore your results are not intended to be used to diagnostic purposes.

 

Security

Dot One stores your Genetic Information and Product’s design files for 6 months before deleting them from our system. We do so in the event that we need to reproduce your product due to a manufacturing fault or delivery failure.

As Dot One creates physical products, it is necessary to pass a design file with your Genetic Information to a 3rd party, Printspace Studios Ltd, for the manufacturing process. The digital files are safely secured on Printspace Studios' software and are deleted from their system on a weekly basis.

Dot One ships 1st class via the Royal Mail. While events are unlikely, we cannot totally ensure the safe delivery of your Product due to possibility of loss during the Royal Mail transportation system. 

 

Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your Personal Information with 3rd parties - except the manufacturing partners stated in the Security section above which is necessary for creating your Product.

However, Dot One may need to share details about you with regulators and law enforcement. These details may include your Genetic Information. We will only share these details if we are compelled by law to do so. When we are allowed to do so, we will let you know when we must share your information.

Under GINA (a US law), you do not need to share your Genetic Information with your employer or your health insurer. Even so, you may be asked to share your Genetic Information with other insurers. These others could include life, long-term care, and disability insurance firms. You should always be careful with whom you choose to share your Genetic Information.

 

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We have the right to revise and amend this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in market conditions affecting our business, changes in technology, changes in payment methods, changes in relevant laws and regulatory requirements and changes in our system’s capabilities. 

You will be subject to the policies and terms in force at the time that you place an order request for the Products from us, unless any change to those policies or this Privacy Policy is required by law or government or regulatory authority – in which case it will apply to orders you have previously placed that we have not yet fulfilled. In the unlikely event that this happens, we will notify you by email.
