Purchase of Products through Dot One’s Website

In order for us to design your Product, you need to take a DNA test using our at-home DNA kit. As part of the test, you will need to fill in a consent form. All of the information that you provide us must be accurate and correct.

To place an order you must be legally capable of entering into binding contracts; and at least 18 years old. (If you are under 18 years old, we may need the express consent from your parent or legal guardian.).

What does the test involve?  - step by step

Step 1. Taking a sample: You will receive a cotton-swab instrument as part of Dot One’s DNA kit, which is what we use in order to obtain your saliva sample. We provide a return envelope for you to send your sample straight to the laboratory.

Step 2. Testing the sample: The samples that are sent to our partner laboratory are anonymous, identifiable only through their Dot One order number. The laboratory analyses your DNA sample using a test which only identifies the locations stated in the test. We do not generate any other information from your sample.

Step 3.  Test results: Your results which are transferred to Dot One electronically and anonymously. Dot One then use them to create your Product. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for further information.

In the event of inconclusive results

Despite abiding to high standards of sample processing, Dot One cannot exclude the unlikely possibility of errors due to inconclusive results. To minimise this event, the Dot One DNA Kit contains instructions for collecting your sample. If the laboratory cannot process your sample in a first test, because, for example,  your swab sample does not contain adequate DNA, you may be charged the cost of the subsequent DNA testing.

Benefits and Risks

Dot One’s Products are for entertainment purposes only. The genetic analysis contains no health information, therefore your results are not intended to be used to diagnostic purposes.

Our aim is to supply you with information that will give you an insight into how your genetic makeup has affected some of your physical and behavioural traits. For examples the likeliness of having a certain hair or eye colour, or your preference of sweet tastes. As well as a results card with this information, Dot One converts the raw genetic data into a colourful design, used to customise the appearance of your Product as a way of personal branding.

Dot One’s product looks at markers, some of which have primarily been studied in European populations. As such, results for customers from other backgrounds may not be as accurate.

Your DNA cannot tell you everything about yourself. Some traits are due to a mix of your DNA and other factors. These factors could include your lifestyle, your environment, or chance.

Genetics is a field that is evolving quickly. Scientists are always discovering new details about how to interpret DNA data. They are also learning that some previous discoveries are not valid. Dot One’s product is based on the current state of knowledge. As our knowledge improves, the insights Dot One’s product gives you may change.

Privacy

Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details.

Under GINA (a US law), you do not need to share your Genetic Information with your employer or your health insurer. Even so, you may be asked to share your Genetic Information with other insurers. These others could include life, long-term care, and disability insurance firms. You should always be careful with whom you choose to share your Genetic Information.

Dot One creates physical products, making it is necessary to pass a design file with your Genetic Information to a 3rd party, Printspace Studios Ltd, for the manufacturing process. The digital files are safely secured on Printspace Studios' software and are deleted from the system on a weekly basis.

Changes to Terms

We have the right to revise and amend these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in market conditions affecting our business, changes in technology, changes in payment methods, changes in relevant laws and regulatory requirements and changes in our system’s capabilities.  You will be subject to the policies and terms in force at the time that you place an order request for the Products from us, unless any change to those policies or these Terms is required by law or government or regulatory authority – in which case it will apply to orders you have previously placed that we have not yet fulfilled. In the unlikely event that this happens, we will notify you by email.
